Several years ago, I was fortunate enough to take a trip around the world. It had long been an ambition of mine to set off from home and not return until I had travelled completely round the globe. The trip took 90 days – and on each one of those days I sent a real, handwritten postcard to more than 80 different people. I called it my “Around the World in 90 Postcards Challenge” – and at times it really did turn out to be a challenge!
In this age of digital technology, it´s increasingly rare to receive a postcard through your home letter box, isn´t it? Well, I think that´s a pity as it always brings a smile to my face whenever I get one. In fact, I use any postcards I receive as bookmarks when I am reading, to be constantly reminded of the good wishes sent from a friend or relative.
I would like to send my good wishes to one of you, though I won´t be posting 90 postcards this time – just 6. If your name is picked, you (or someone of your choice) will receive one hand-written, real, snail-mail postcard each month for the next six months from wherever I am – which will probably be Spain – but you never know!
This is my way of saying A GREAT BIG THANK YOU to my followers – almost 1700 of you!
If you would like to be entered into the proverbial hat, then you need to let me know in the comment section below.
Here´s how to have a chance of winning:
If you have clicked on the ¨Follow¨ button of this blog you will be entitled to one entry. If you want to gain further entries by liking my new Facebook page or by following me on Twitter (the icons are in the right-hand sidebar of this blog page), then that’s up to you.
Just let me know in the comment section whether you are entitled to 1, 2 or 3 entries – and don´t forget – I can check if you cheat! 😉
Closing date for entries is midnight on June 30th (Central European time), and the winner will be announced a few days later.
I promise not to write on any of the postcards: ¨Weather here …. Wish you were lovely!¨
GOOD LUCK and don´t forget to let me know if you would like your name to be entered into the draw.
THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED. RESULTS WILL BE ANNOUNCED DURING THE FIRST FEW DAYS OF JULY.
I would like to be entered once for next year… sorry missed this year… I have lived in Sevilla, Santiago de Compostella, and Barcelona… so feels like home. Don’t do twitter or facebook so only once don’t forget me!
Well ….. that’s always assuming I do the contest again next year, Leah! Sorry you missed out this time, though.
I would love to offer you a way to stay in touch via snail mail ~ to make your own postcard/card with your own photos! Try a card for free ~ my treat! You can even write in your own handwriting font and use your own signature! http://www.sendoutcards.com/126830
I love to handwrite my own cards as well ~ I agree there’s nothing like going to the mailbox and getting a surprise card!
And count me in too! 2 Entries!
OK – you’re in!
🙂
Of course I’d like to receive postcards in my mailbox! Letters, gifts, POSTCARDS are so fun to find in the midst of bills (ugh!) I’m not big on twitter or Facebook, though I do have accounts. So I am an avid follower. One, please. Beautiful postcards. 😉
Good luck, Gemma 🙂
Tweeted, liked and followed. Hope I win the beautiful postcards. What fun
Ruth
Hey – thanks Ruth 🙂
Good luck!
What beautiful postcards, Marianne. I qualify for three entries. Great idea. 😀
OK Sylvia – you’re in!
😀
I have just put all the names of the entrants of my postcard competition into a hat (well a crystal dish, actually) and my hubby has drawn out your name, Sylvia!
CONGRATULATIONS!!
I have just sent you an email (perhaps you should check in case it has gone into your junk mail). If you would like to email me back with your address, I will be delighted to get your first postcard in the mail 🙂
Thanks so much. Marianne. That’s really exciting. 🙂
PS When you email me with your address, be sure to include details of your FB and Twitter pages so I can follow you back! 🙂
Nice one! Err, two and a half? Can’t remember if I follow on Twitter as well, but I think so.
I absolutely love postcards (and I have some of those embroidered flamenco ones too) but even by my standards that’s a LOT of postcards, Marianne. Waiting to learn what your latest idea is. 🙂
HA – I love to try and think about something different! Stay tuned 😉
2 and a half in the hat!
I’m a WP follower of yours, I like Spain and and I love handwriting. Put me in the hat.
OK Trish – I will 🙂 Thanks.
Brilliant idea! Count me in please – 2 entries.
Will do!
Oh yes, please Marianne. One entry for me -it’s such a lovely idea 🙂
Thanks Sue 🙂
Good luck!
What a very lovely idea, I think there’s something very special (especially nowadays) about recieivng a hand written postcard. When I was little I used to love it when my grandparents mailed me one of those really naff postcards from Spain with the embroidered flamenco dresses 🙂
Hahaha yes, I remember those – in fact, I think they can still be bought!
I used to send tons of postcards… it was a great way to pass time waiting and travelling from place to place before all the gadgets we have today.to occupy our time. I haven’t sent some from Asia and they are pretty hard to find! I always bought a few fro myself too with great shots and a memory of my travels.
Please enter me too 🙂 (Just 1)
Gladly, Diana 🙂
Hmmm…. I also buy postcards to keep for myself as a memory of my travels – including the ones I have scanned for this post!
Good luck.
Thanks 🙂
That is such a cool idea, Marianne! Spain is so beautiful!
Thanks Amy.
ooh yes please (1, but the winning 1).
Time will tell ….. 🙂
Good luck!
What fun Marianne, yes please on two counts!
Thought I would do something a little different 🙂
2 entries for you, Gilly!
Such a lovely idea. I try to send postcards when I am away from home. I am entitled to 2 entries. 🙂
Good for you 🙂
I wish you luck!
A stunning idea indeed Marianne and I certainly won’t mind receiving a lovely postcard from you every month. Your photo’s are so gorgeous! As you know I am following you, I LOVE all your posts (they don’t have a love button ;P) and I am following you on FB but I don’t do Twitter. Thanks for a lovely post and I do hope I am one of the winners. 😀 *big hugs*
Thanks for your ongoing support, Sonel – much appreciated 🙂
You’re welcome hon. 😀 *hugs*
what a lovely idea! I think I get 2 counts – twitter and FB! I can’t remember the last time I had a postcard from anywhere – we are so ‘digital’ now aren’t we!?
fingers crossed………!
Aly
I’m thinking of developing this idea further – so watch this space.
Good luck, Aly!
What a wonderful idea! I still love to receive (& send) postcards but I’ve found that there are fewer to be found in gift shops in these days of Instagram and the like.
Thanks Sue 🙂
Have you? There always seems to be loads of postcards wherever I am – though I’ve never used Instagram.
There are hardly any to be found in this area (Extremadura) In the village closest to me (Alange) they only seem to have postcards of the virgin! – I have thought about making my own – but it would be a costly exercise, with no guarantee of selling them! I have never (and will never) use Instagram – but so many people just post a photo on Facebook or Twitter when they are travelling these days. I remember when I was touring Canada that I took advantage of the free stationery in the hotels and wrote a letter every day to a friend in the UK with a postcard enclosed – it was before social media (early 1990’s) – so I suppose you could say I was blogging even then!
Hey – it can be quite costly too, buying and sending loads of postcards – especially if they are travelling half way around the world. I know it cost me a fortune on my Around the World in 90 Postcards Challenge! Still loved doing it though 🙂
Thanks for the visit there at my blog! Now I am follower 1699… I love Spain, and enjoy what i have seen of your blog already!
WELCOME and thanks 🙂
You are the first entrant into the Postcard competition!
Mucha suerte!
Gracias Senora/-ita
