I’ve only ever seen a dung beetle on TV in a wildlife documentary programme.
Imagine my surprise when I saw this little chap, rolling his ball of poop in my garden, last Sunday afternoon!
The moral of this tale? If you’re having a bad day, just remember – you are not this dung beetle with sh** all over your head!
If you’ve never seen a dung beetle doing what dung beetles do – here’s a YouTube video for you.
ENJOY!
What’s the most curious thing you’ve seen recently?
Hahaha. Too funny!
🙂
Yikes, Marianne! Aren’t critters amazing sometimes? I needed this laugh today, as I continue to search for jobs and continue to find sh** all over my head. I wonder if there is any point at all looking for a new job at 58!!??
Just take early retirement and get travelling!! 🙂
Haha, can’t afford to do that, sadly. I wish. 🙂
Great photograph!
Thanks!
lucky you to get to see him doing this…so jealous Marianne
Yes, very lucky – but I know it! 🙂
Yes, sometimes you need to relative things in life 🙂 and nice learning about another animal living here (I also live east of Malaga) never seen one. Active little fellow!
Yes, very active Sonja 🙂
Wow…..a revelation
Exactly!
In South Texas I grew up seeing them all the time. I think we called them doodle bugs but they did the same thing and we thought nothing about it. Haven’t seen one in years!
Really? Well, this is my first! I’m so glad I spotted him 🙂
Wow – that beats most things you see out and about in our urbanised lives! ::)
I truly couldn’t believe my eyes, Meredith!
I can believe it, Marianne. I suppose Africa and Spain were joined at one stage, so I shouldn’t have been so surprised Spain has dung beetles too – it’s just I’d always have paired dung beetles with Africa – never anywhere else. Now I must go to the web and find out more about these industrious little creatures. Fantastic 🙂
What a cute (and smelly) little fella! 😀
Do you think that being a bung beetle might be some kind of karma for misdeeds in a previous life?
You could be right – I should try to stop telling so many poo jokes in this life 😉
LOL 🙂
Love this Marianne! Made me laugh! 🙂
Me too! 🙂
Great pics. Some days you gotta do what you’ve got to do…
True enough 🙂
Ooohh, I can just imagine David Attenborough going crazy over the sight of that little fella and his big ball of dung! Great pic – you sure got up close and personal for that one!
Yep, even though I zoomed in, I could smell it!
He looks happy as a beetle in s**t!
…. or a pig in muck!
Roll on Easter ! 🙂
LOL 😉
Wowsers, I’m most impressed. Beats the shit (so to speak) out of cute stuff like butterflies. I can’t help thinking of the Dung Beetle Dad in “the Ice Age”, saying “Do we have to bring all of this crap?” 🙂
LOL 🙂
Thanks for the laugh. 😀
You’re welcome, TT 🙂
I’m sure he’d wiped it off had he known that he was going to bump into you 😉
Am trying to imagine it’s a giant choc truffle…
I told him his photo would be on the internet before the end of the week – but some people just have no pride. 🙂
EEwwwwww!
He’s plastered all over YouPooed…!
Hehehehe … possibly the most MAGNIFICENT and INFAMOUS dung beetle in the whole wide world! 🙂
